History at Highfield

At Highfield, our history curriculum aims to cultivate a deep understanding and appreciation of the past in children. In Key Stage 1 (ages 5-7), students explore significant historical events, local history, and artefacts. Moving to Key Stage 2 (ages 7-11), they study ancient civilisations, British history, and key periods like the Roman Empire and World Wars, while honing historical investigation and critical thinking skills. The curriculum emphasises chronological understanding, historical knowledge of civilisations and figures, and interpretation of historical sources. Ongoing assessment ensures students grasp historical concepts and develop skills essential for understanding the complexities of history and their impact on the world today.
