French at Highfield

At Highfield, our French curriculum aims to develop language skills and cultural awareness in children. In Key Stage 1 (ages 5-7), children learn basic vocabulary and phrases through songs, rhymes, and simple stories, alongside an introduction to French culture. In Key Stage 2 (ages 7-11), they expand their vocabulary, develop conversational and writing skills, and gain a deeper understanding of French grammar and culture. The curriculum emphasises listening, speaking, reading, and writing, while fostering an appreciation for French-speaking cultures. Ongoing formative assessment ensures individual progress and a love for learning French, preparing children to communicate confidently and appreciate different cultures.
