River Itchen Trip
This week, we took our Geography learning outdoors!
This week, Year 5/6 took a walk down the River Itchen, starting at Mansbridge and going all the way down to near Cobden Bridge. Led by Mr Dodson, the children walked the route over the course of a couple of hours, stopping along the way to take part in a variety of fieldwork activities. These included measuring the depth and speed of the river at different points, drawing sketch maps of sections of the river and carrying out wildlife surveys. Speaking of wildlife, one of the highlights of the trip was when a family of swans swam up to the bank and hopped out to see us! Sadly for them, we didn't have any food to give them..! The children had already been learning about river features and processes, like meanders and erosion, and it was lovely to be able to get outside and see it in real life. A big thanks to all the parents who were able to come along and support us too.
