Animal Classification

They spent their first lesson looking at different ways of classifying animals and then had a try at making their own branch chains.  Being able to think of questions that continued to sort groups of animals into smaller subgroups was trickier than you might think!

In the second session, we earned about the work of Carl Linnaeus, who lived in the 1700s and designed the system that we still used today to classify animals into groups.  The children researched the classification of different animals and plants, and then had to think of species that they predicted would have similar - and different - classification tables.

Later on this term, we'll be taking a closer look at the tiniest species on our planet: microorganisms!
