Geography Fieldwork
Recently, we got out and about for some Geography fieldwork!
Last week, Year 5/6 took a trip down to Sainsbury's in Portswood. No, this wasn't to get in a bit of early Christmas shopping - it was to do some Geography fieldwork!
In our lessons recently, we've been learning about trade, so we thought it would be a good idea to find out where the products we buy come from. Exploring the fruit and veg aisle, we discovered that our healthy foods come from all over the world - some of us found over 15 different countries! There wasn't as much variety in where the clothes were imported from, but it was still interesting to see how much of what we wear isn't made here. Finally, we'd been learning about Fair Trade, so decided to find out how much of a price difference there was between Fair Trade and non-Fair Trade products. Surprisingly, we found quite a difference depending on which of the products we were comparing. Although the Fair Trade versions were often a little more on the costly side, that wasn't always the case!
We'll be following up our fieldwork more in class over the coming weeks, including designing graphs of our data and making a video project about our trip using iMovie on iPads.
