The year R children have done so well this year in learning their sounds. We have now learnt just over 45 sounds and some of these are trigraphs (3 letters working together to make one sound) and digraphs (2 letters working together to make one sound.) The children have been learning to recognise the sounds, read them in words, write them and apply them to their learning in reading and writing.

Keep using the phonics cards sent home to play games like snap and for sound hunts. There are lots of free online games too that you can play on ‘phonicsplay.’

You will need all of these sounds as you move up into year 1.

Keep practising!
