I am aware that, as a parent community, you have been told of my successful appointment as the permanent headteacher at Highfield CE Primary School this week. I am of course delighted to be given the honour of leading the school that I love and moving forward for the benefit of all of the children and wider community. Thank you to many of you that have already sent kind messages of congratulations.
Highfield is an incredibly special school and I have been part of it for the last 17 years seeing it change, grow and innovate into the school that it is now. I fully intend, with the support of staff, parents and governors to continue serving the children with a fantastic education and experiences that they will not forget. The education at Highfield has always been more than our high academic outcomes – it is also shaped by our emphasis on Christian values such as love, serve and trust and the stability and foundation that this brings. We all want to make a difference to the children – that is our reason for being here and I am privileged to be able to serve alongside a dedicated staff team who understand their important role in building children that have healthy self-esteem and the courage to face anything that the future may hold for them.
Building Learning Power was an initiative I bought to the school ten years ago now and it is very much part of our school culture and how we talk about learning. My vision remains that all children develop a love of learning, within a supportive, aspirational and engaging environment. Equally, for the children to know that they can make a positive and unique difference through the application of school values in their own lives and the lives of others too.
Leading in times of COVID has certainly been challenging not only for the school teams but also for each of our families. I look forward with hope that the “blue sky” (that I talked about in my celebration assembly this afternoon) will soon appear and we can re-join together as a whole community. In the meantime, keep safe!
