For the past few weeks, Asia have been learning about different printing techniques in art, including a study of Hokusai, the famous Japanese woodblock painter. We experimented with a variety of techniques, including mono and resist printing, before making our own prints on the theme ‘The Beauty of Nature’. We could interpret this however we wanted, and most of us chose to use styrofoam to create a relief print. To do this, we had to carve a design into the styrofoam, before carefully painting it with printing ink. The design was then transferred onto paper; most of us chose to use black paper so that our design would have a black outline, but a few used other types! On the whole, we were pleased with the outcomes and would love the chance to do something like this again!
