Year 3/4 had a wonderful day on Tuesday as we kicked off our new topic of learning with a day as Ancient Egyptians!
The children were asked for their ideas prior to beginning the topic, and ‘dressing up’ was very popular, so one of the children’s home learning tasks was to create a costume for the day after researching Ancient Egypt! During the day, the children embarked upon a series of activities while in role as Ancient Egyptains. They travelled back in time to 6000BC and experienced life alongside the River Nile; farming, pottery making and jewellery making, were among some of the things the children experienced. Alongside developing their understanding of chronology, as they learnt about the many achievements of the Ancient Egyptians, the children learnt about where Egypt is located, its land uses and even cooked ‘date cakes’ with Howard Carter.
The children’s ideas were at the core of the day, and over the following weeks, these ideas will continue to be capitalised on, as the children’s learning linked to their Target Steps is encapsulated within this memorable context.
