Active maths!

For the past two weeks in maths, we have been looking to improve the childrens fluency with finding number bonds to 10, to support them with adding together multiple numbers of up to four digits! As part of yesterdays lesson, we took our learning outside to the playground to see what other ways we could use to help when adding together larger, trickier numbers. Some used chalk to note down some workings, some used the large hundred square and others used mental math jumps to hold a number in their head, then take walk forwards or backwards (depending on addition or subtraction), with each step signifying a number jump.

All in all, the children worked fantastically, demonstrating their developing confidence with finding a variety of ways to help them with their mental maths, whilst enjoying the last of the summer sunshine!
